Split Pins
Split pins, also known as cotter pins, are an unthreaded fastener designed to be slotted into a hole and secured by bending each leg outwards.
They are commonly made from wire of semi-circular cross section which is square cut at the
end. Other specialist end finishes include Mitre or Bevel. Lengths are measured from the end of the tines
to the point the base of the eyelet hole contacts with the host material. An unthreaded fastener solution
for single use, as bending fatigue can cause failure if persistently re-used. Some alternative solutions for the same task are also listed here.
