Hexagonal Insert Press Nuts, or Clinch Nuts

This product guide contains the specification for hexagonal insert press nuts, also known as clinch nuts. They are standard parts available from Westfield Fasteners.

Product Description

Hexagonal insert press nuts create a strong permanent attachment in sheet sheet and metal panels. Also known as self clinching nuts or swage nuts. Insert press nuts are installed into a pre-drilled or punched out pilot hole using a press. The force of the press swages the surrounding sheet steel and the knurling on the clinching ring helps to grip the nut to the sheet material and prevent it from rotating.

Insert press nuts are widely used for high volume production as they are quick to install and are a low cost solution for creating a fixing point. Applications include white goods, consumer electronics, heating and ventilation parts and automotive components.

Scope of the Standard

These parts are not produced to a standard, but spanner sizes appear to follow those specified in DIN 934 for full hexagon nuts. Figure 1 and table 1 state the main dimensions for each size available.
